Notice of Public Meeting: Amendments to By-laws Related to Short-term Rentals (STRs)
Notice of a public meeting concerning Township-wide amendments to the Development Permit By-law & Comprehensive Zoning By-law for Short-term Rentals.
The meeting is being held to consider Township-wide amendments to the Development Permit By-law 04-180 as amended by By-law 2021-077 and Comprehensive Zoning By-law 04-181 as amended by By-law 2021-076 pertaining to Short-term Rentals (STRs).
The Short-term Rental (STR) By-law 2021-092 was approved in September 2021, and By-laws 2021-076 and By-law 2021-077, being amendments to the Township of Lake of Bays Comprehensive Zoning By-law and Development Permit By-law, were approved in July 2021.
The purpose and effect of the proposed amendments are to update the existing By-laws pertaining to STRs. Specifically, the amendments will:
- Clarify how a Primary Dwelling is defined
- Permit one Short-term Rental in one primary dwelling per lot
- Permit a Short-term Rental in any zone that contains an existing dwelling (including existing legal non-complying and/or legal non-conforming dwellings)
- Amend specific development standards pertaining to minimum side yard setbacks for a Short-term Rental, whereby a Short-term Rental would be permitted in a dwelling with an existing legal non-complying side yard setback or previously reduced setback that received planning approval
- Permit the use of an existing sleeping cabin to be included as part of a Short-term Rental provided there is a maximum of one renter per lot and the septic system can accommodate the daily flow
