Township Commences Review of the Official Plan

(Lake of Bays, ON) The Township of Lake of Bays has commenced the process of reviewing and updating its Official Plan. An Official Plan outlines the objectives, policies, and goals that will direct future growth, land use, and development in the Township for the next 25 years. By commencing this review and update, the Township of Lake of Bays aims to ensure the future document reflects the community's specific needs. Aside from this, the Provincial Planning Act mandates this review to ensure alignment with current provincial and regional planning policies.

The Official Plan review process will involve:

• Background research: Reviewing existing reports, studies, and plans, along with initial public engagement to gather community input.
• Proposed policy direction: Presenting recommended directions for the new Official Plan while continuing public engagement activities.
• Drafting the Official Plan: Incorporating feedback from the public and stakeholders into the new document.

The public is invited to attend an upcoming Council presentation on Tuesday, July 30th, 2024, during the Council (Planning Matters) meeting beginning at 9:00 a.m. The project team will introduce the initiative to Council and members of the public, highlight future opportunities for public engagement, and outline the high-level timeline for tasks involved in preparing the new Official Plan. The meeting will be streamed live and made available on the Township’s website.
