Ice Storm Update March 31

Following the recent ice storm that impacted much of the region, cleanup efforts in the Township of Lake of Bays are continuing. Township facilities remain open. Residents are urged to continue using caution as cleanup efforts progress.

Road users in the Township can report trees blocking roadways and other road-related issues in the Township of Lake of Bays through the Report It form or by contacting Public Works at 705-635-2851. Trees affecting power lines should be reported directly to Hydro One at 1-800-434-1235.

Hydro One:

Hydro One crews continue to work alongside contractors to restore power to customers. Crews have restored power to more than 358,000 customers since the start of the storm. Hydro One anticipates it will take several days to restore all customers.

Stay clear of any fallen power lines. If you spot a fallen line, keep at least 10 metres back, even if it does not appear to be live. Report it to Hydro One at 1-800-434-1235.

District of Muskoka:

The District of Muskoka declared a State of Emergency in response to the severe ice storm that swept through the District, causing widespread power outages, downed trees and hydro lines, and hazardous road conditions. They encourage residents to stay informed through official channels and to check in on neighbours who may need assistance.

As cleanup continues and restoration efforts are underway, the District has made a devoted page for the Spring Ice Storm response where residents can be informed about any changes or impacts to District-run programs and services.

Safety Reminders:

  • Use flashlights instead of candles to reduce fire risk.
  • Never use BBQs, propane heaters, or generators indoors—carbon monoxide can be fatal.
  • Unplug electric vehicles to avoid potential surges or damage.
  • Keep sump pumps and drains clear to prevent basement flooding.
