Ice Safety Reminder - No Ice is Safe Ice
The Township of Lake of Bays is saddened to hear of a recent incident, where a 59-year-old Milton resident lost their life after falling through the ice in Lake of Bays. Staff and Council’s thoughts are with the family and loved ones affected by this tragedy.
As the ice weakens with warming weather, we want to remind everyone to exercise caution. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) advises:
- Emergency services are counting on you to make that decision to stay OFF the ICE.
- No ice is Safe Ice. Ice conditions can change quickly, especially at this time of year.
- Ensure you’re wearing proper safety gear.
- Carry a fully charged mobile phone for emergencies.
- Let someone, a family member, neighbour, or friend, know your plans.
Your safety is our priority. Please take care and avoid unnecessary risks when near or on the ice.
