    Building Services Open House – Getting Ready for the New Building Code Effective January 1, 2025

    (Lake of Bays, ON) The Township of Lake of Bays is inviting builders, contractors, designers, and community members to attend an informative Building Services Open House. This event will focus on preparing our community for the upcoming Provincial Building Code changes, set to take effect on January 1, 2025.

    • Time: 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. (Doors open at 12:30 p.m.)

    House Fire on Aspdin Road

    (Huntsville / Lake of Bays) - Around 2:15 a.m. on October 28, 2024, the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Fighters responded to a structure fire on Aspdin Road in Huntsville.  Crews from Station 1 Huntsville and Station 5 Port Sydney were dispatched. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a fully involved single story home with flames through the roof. Fire crews acted quickly to suppress the fire and prevent further damage. The roof and the ground floor of the home were completely destroyed by fire. There were no injuries reported and damage is estimated to be at least $500,000.

    (Huntsville / Lake of Bays) Around 2:19 pm on October 21, 2024, the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Fighters responded to a structure fire on Springfield Road in Huntsville.  Crews from Station 1 Huntsville, Station 5 Port Sydney, and Station 4 Baysville including 20 firefighters and 7 trucks, responded to the event.

    Media Release: Funding Available for Watershed Health Projects in Second Intake of Environmental Grant Program

    The second intake for the Environmental Projects Grant Program is now open, accepting applications for three key funding streams focused on environmental initiatives in Lake of Bays. This round introduces the new Watershed Fund, which offers up to $5000 for projects aimed at protecting and restoring watershed health and improving water quality in the Township.

    (Lake of Bays, ON) The Township of Lake of Bays has released a Draft Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) By-law for public review and comment via a survey and public meeting. This important step brings the Township closer to implementing a MAT program, which aims to support and grow local tourism initiatives such as area promotion, trail system improvements, and the expansion of local events, among others.

    Muskoka, ON - The Muskoka Community Foundation is pleased to announce that applications to the Lake of Bays Community Fund are now being accepted. The Lake of Bays Community Fund was established earlier this year with an initial gift of $9,500.00 from the Township of Lake of Bays.

  • Roads License Agreement Public Meeting Summary and Next Steps

    Township staff and Council sincerely thank everyone who participated in our September 9, 2024, public meeting concerning the Roads License Agreement Program. The total viewership was 181 people, comprising 68 in physical attendance, 50 via Zoom, and 63 watching the livestream. Staff received 27 written comment submissions, and 26 people spoke at the meeting.

    Understanding the Importance of Roadside Brushing: Ensuring Safety and Preserving Infrastructure

    The Township of Lake of Bays conducts annual roadside vegetation control, commonly known as "brushing." While this essential practice may initially seem visually drastic, it serves several crucial purposes for our community's safety and the maintenance of our infrastructure. In response to recurring public inquiries about brushing in our area, and to demonstrate how quickly nature recovers, township staff have created a short informational video to address common questions and concerns.
