  • Community Planning Permit By-law 2021-111 in Effect

    The Township of Lake of Bays is pleased to announce that as of April 18, 2024, the Community Planning Permit (CPP) By-law 2021-111 is now in force and effect.

    The By-law can be found on the Township’s website. All planning applications will now be processed and evaluated according to the Community Planning Permit By-law.

  • Fire Department Responds to Multiple Events on April 9 & 10

    On April 9th and 10th, crews from Station 1 Huntsville, Station 3 Hillside, Station 4 Baysville, and Station 5 Port Sydney of the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department responded to multiple incidents in the community and provided mutual aid to Bracebridge and Gravenhurst.

    Earth Day Compost Giveaway in Lake of Bays

    The Annual Compost Giveaway is happening again in Lake of Bays! On Earth Day, April 22, 2024, starting at 10 am, you can pick up free, quality compost at four locations in the municipality:

    • Lake of Bays Community Centre Arena, Baysville (10 University St)
    • Dorset Seniors Centre (5025 Muskoka Road 117)
    • Interlaken Old Firehall (2309 Limberlost Rd)
    • Dwight Branch Public Library Parking Lot (1014 Dwight Beach Rd)

    The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department is raising awareness about the hazards associated with lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery devices, such as smartphones, laptops, cordless power tools, e-bikes, and various other electronic gadgets prevalent in today's digital age. With the increasing reliance on these devices for communication, work, and entertainment, residents are encouraged to understand the potential risks and take appropriate precautions to prevent fire incidents.

  • Huntsville OPP Lay Several Charges Over the Easter Long Weekend

    Members of the Huntsville Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were busy patrolling Huntsville and Lake of Bays this past long weekend.

    Between Friday, April 29, 2024, to Monday, April 2, 2024 members from the Huntsville OPP laid a total of 132 traffic related charges. Officers conducted traffic enforcement with a focus on the "Big Four" which include impaired driving, distracted driving, speeding, and lack of seatbelt use. 

  • Fire Rating Moderate
    The Fire Danger Rating is Set at Moderate

    Effective April 3, 2024, the Fire Danger Rating is now set at MODERATE and there is "No Daytime Burning" from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

    Under a moderate fire rating:

    • Fire must be under constant supervision and control from time of lighting until it is totally extinguished
    • Forest fuels are drying and there is an increased risk of surface fires starting. Carry out any forest activities with caution

    Highway 35 Reopened After Washout

    Highway 35 has reopened for traffic after a significant washout caused damage to the road infrastructure. Repairs are ongoing, and motorists are advised of potential delays as traffic flow may be limited to a single lane.
