  • Roads License Agreement Public Meeting Summary and Next Steps

    Township staff and Council sincerely thank everyone who participated in our September 9, 2024, public meeting concerning the Roads License Agreement Program. The total viewership was 181 people, comprising 68 in physical attendance, 50 via Zoom, and 63 watching the livestream. Staff received 27 written comment submissions, and 26 people spoke at the meeting.

    Understanding the Importance of Roadside Brushing: Ensuring Safety and Preserving Infrastructure

    The Township of Lake of Bays conducts annual roadside vegetation control, commonly known as "brushing." While this essential practice may initially seem visually drastic, it serves several crucial purposes for our community's safety and the maintenance of our infrastructure. In response to recurring public inquiries about brushing in our area, and to demonstrate how quickly nature recovers, township staff have created a short informational video to address common questions and concerns.

    Iconic Dwight Beach is now home to two unique carvings, crafted by world-class chainsaw carving talent Jake Rhodes of Northern Rhodes Artistry in Wood. These impressive works were carved from eastern white pines that needed to be cut down the year prior. 

  • Notice of Installation of Accessible On-Street Parking Space at Dwight Beach for Review and Comments

    TAKE NOTICE that the Corporation of the Township of Lake of Bays proposes to install an accessible on-street parking space at Dwight Beach. Pursuant to Section 80.39 of O.Reg. 191/11 under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005, the municipality is consulting with the public and persons with disabilities before creating an accessible on-street parking space on Dwight Beach Road.

  • Public Notice: Road Licensing Agreement Program Paused; New By-law Established for Road Allowance Purchasing

    During the regular council meeting held on August 13, 2024, Township of Lake of Bays Council approved a temporary suspension, known as a moratorium, on the Township’s Road Licensing Agreement Program. This moratorium is set for 180 days and applies to all existing private roads and driveways under By-law 2019-136 that are utilizing an unopened Township road allowance as a means of vehicular access to their property.

    During a special Closed Council Meeting held on August 7, 2024, the Council of the Township of Lake of Bays made the difficult decision to sever ties with the former CAO Bryan Brown and end his employment with the municipality, effective immediately.

  • Media Release: Never Leave a Child Alone in a Vehicle

    The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department has been actively responding to incidents this summer where children have been accidentally locked inside vehicles. These situations can be extremely dangerous, especially during hot weather. We urge parents and caregivers to take precautions to prevent such incidents and ensure the safety of their little ones.
