Commissioning of Documents
Commissioner of Oaths
The Township of Lake of Bays has Commissioner of Oaths. Please Note: We do not have a Notary Public on staff, if your documents indicates that it must be taken by a Notary Public then you must contact a Lawyer.
A charge of $10.00 fee per signature to commission non-municipal documents is applicable. Cash, cheque or debit card payment options are available. Any document under the Vital Statistics Act will be commissioned free of charge. An appointment is not necessary however we recommend that you contact the Municipal Office at (705) 635-2272 prior to arrival to confirm that a Commissioner will be available.
In order to have a document commissioned all parties required to sign the document must be present and must provide valid photo identification. The Commissioner of Oaths will first review the document to determine if the document meets their specification. We reserve the right to copy any documents commissioned for our records and we reserve the right to refuse commissioning services of any document.
If the paperwork is in order, all parties named in the document will then swear an oath of truth and the Commissioner will then stamp and seal the document.
Please Note: Documents that are in any language other than English will not be commissioned, as we cannot validate the information that is sworn. There will be no exceptions to this policy. Thank you for your co-operation.
Certification of Documents
The Commissioner of Oaths can provide certification of documents. If you are attending the Municipal Office with your documentation, please ensure that you bring the original documentation with you for verification.
A charge of $15.00 per visit is applicable. If the Township has to prepare the documentation (photocopies) a charge of $25.00 per visit will be applied.
An appointment is not necessary however we recommend that you contact the Municipal Office at (705) 635-2272 prior to arrival to confirm that a Commissioner will be available.
